I've had the privilege of working with some amazing students. Here's what they've said about their experience.
I love having Sandy as my Chinese teacher due to her kind and patient nature. In her class, I am never afraid to make mistakes, as I know she will never show judgment; rather, she guides me in the right direction. With her help, I went from having no knowledge of the language to being able to read in Chinese in just a few months. Not only is she a great educator, but she also shows that she cares about her students by remembering the small details about them. If I had to start from the beginning, I would choose Sandy each time :)
I've had the opportunity to learn Chinese from several teachers over the past year, but none have come close to Sandy. She’s hands-down the best teacher I’ve ever had. Her love for the language is contagious, and she has this incredible way of breaking down even the hardest topics so that they actually make sense.
Coming from the Western world, learning Mandarin has been especially challenging for me—not just because of the language itself, but also because of the significant cultural differences. For a year, I struggled to fully grasp both the linguistic and cultural aspects of Chinese, and I knew I needed more personalized help. I had been following Sandy’s videos on TikTok for quite some time, and her clear, engaging explanations really stood out to me. After a while, I finally decided to book a trial class with her—and it turned out to be the best decision ever. From that first lesson, I knew I had found the perfect teacher.
What really stands out about Sandy in our one-on-one lessons is her patience. She never rushes me, no matter how long it takes for me to get something. It’s like she has this sixth sense for figuring out exactly where I’m having trouble, even when I can’t explain it myself. And she’s always so encouraging.
One of the best things about working with Sandy is how she personalizes everything. She understands that everyone has different goals, and for me, it’s all about becoming fluent in Mandarin, not taking the HSK exams. She gets that, and structures our lessons around that focus. This approach has been such a game-changer for me.
Her lessons are also a safe space to make mistakes, which is so important when learning a language as challenging as Mandarin. She encourages me to get things wrong in the lesson so that I can learn from those
mistakes and avoid them when I’m speaking with Chinese people. That level of support has really boosted my confidence.
Beyond just language, Sandy’s deep understanding of Chinese culture has been a huge help too. She teaches me the little nuances and social cues that really matter when you're trying to have real conversations. Whether it’s customs, traditions, or just day-to-day interactions, she’s made me feel
so much more confident when speaking with native speakers.
Every lesson is tailored to my needs, and they’re always interesting and fun. I’ve learned so much, not just about the language, but about how to use it in real life.
If you're looking for a one-on-one teacher who’s not only an expert in the language but also helps you understand the culture and how to navigate social situations, I can’t recommend Sandy enough. Following her on TikTok for all that time and finally taking that trial class was the best decision ever!
Sandy is a fantastic teacher, she makes the content engaging and tailors it to the learner’s preferences and needs. As an educator, she is always patient with mistakes while encouraging me to push beyond my comfort level. I’m constantly amazed by how she remembers details, not just about our classes but also about parts of my life outside class that we’ve discussed. She integrates these details into her lesson plan, which makes for a holistic learning experience. For instance, in our conversations, she makes sure to use words and grammar that we have previously covered, and draws on examples from both her life and mine. I have learnt so much from Sandy about the language and the culture. Like catching up with a friend, I look forward to our classes every week.
I really enjoy my sessions with Sandy! She’s so patient and very good interpreting my Chinese as a beginner. She makes me feel comfortable speaking which in turn helps build my confidence. I’m lucky to have found a great tutor. I feel in time I will reach my goal of speaking more fluently and confidently thanks to Sandy.
Sandy Cheng's class has been worth every minute and dollar and more. She assures the content is understood and moves at a perfect pace, while allowing room for mistakes while catching up. All around best Chinese teacher I've met!
Sandy’s awesome.
She really goes the extra mile to make my experience learning Chinese as immersive as possible, even when I subconsciously regress into my habit of reverting back to my native language when confused or unfamiliar with something. She tailors each lesson not only to my skill level but also to the conversations and lessons we have had in our previous classes—including slowing down or moving past certain things as needed. I’m incredibly comfortable with failing in front her, sharing with her, asking questions, and even approaching her about non-class related Chinese stuff.
She’s punctual, dedicated, attentive, creative, resourceful, and a genuinely interesting human being. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I can tell when I get into my classes that she’s happy to see me and looks forward to talking to me.
The energy she brings to her classes is refreshing, and easily one of the best parts of my morning classes. I could talk about how great of a teacher she is for days, but you’d be better off seeing firsthand. Really— she’s great. If you want a capable teacher that will build your confidence and communication in Chinese, she’s your girl.
If not, then you can always at least follow her skits on Instagram and learn from there.
I knew that when I chose Sandy as my Chinese teacher, I would not be disappointed. Having learned for years, I realized that not all Chinese teachers are equal, and Sandy keeps me interested, and the 90 minutes that I spend each week go by in a flash.
The class is well structured. I get a summary of the lesson after each class.
